Sun Safety - The Natural Way

Sun safety is an important part of any summer activity and finding a non-toxic sunscreen to protect my baby’s skin is essential. For the longest time, I didn’t realize how dangerous conventional sunscreens are. So here is my tried and true Mom’s guide to the absolute best kid-friendly mineral based sunscreen on the market.

Why use Mineral Based Sunscreen for Kids?

1.      Mineral sunscreen doesn’t put toxins into the bloodstream

Many chemical sunscreens use active ingredients such as oxybenzone, octinoxate and homosalate.

All of these disrupt the body’s natural hormone production, have high rates of skin allergies and have been associated with endometriosis in women. Some studies have also found it present in the milk of nursing mothers.

This means your kids’ bodies are absorbing many toxins when you spray or slather them with chemical sunscreen.

2.      Mineral sunscreen has ZERO lag time between application and protection.

Unlike chemical sunscreens that need between 15- 20 minutes to absorb, applying mineral sunscreen means you get to the ‘fun’ even sooner. A big bonus for little ones.

3.      Mineral sunscreen protects the skin from the harm of UV rays.

Chemical sunscreens filter out UV rays, while mineral sunscreens physically block them completely.

So, what do I use?

For my family and I, we only use ‘ThinkBaby’ mineral sunscreen. It uses safe ingredients such as zinc oxide and addresses the growing concern of harmful chemicals being found in most consumer products.

PROS:

  • It is lightweight

  • Rubs in quickly and easily

  • Is water resistant for up to 80 minutes

  • Eco-friendly.

  • 100% affordable.

As with any big sunny days, using sun hats, UV protected swimwear and finding areas of shade are also important when protecting your little’s skin.

With mineral based sunscreen like ‘ThinkBaby’ you get peace of mind knowing your kids are safe from toxic chemicals as well as the sun. So go ahead and soak it up!
