Chiropractic Care for Kids

We absolutely love seeing little people in the practice. Their energy is contagious and they are so much fun to be around. Many people are still surprised that we adjust kids and babies…

Here are some of the questions we frequently hear:

1.     Why do parents choose to bring their children to Chiropractors?

Kids have spines too!

Just like adults, there are many lifestyle habits or experiences that can add stress to our lives and have a negative effect on how we express health. Spinal misalignments (vertebral subluxations) can impair the communication from the brain to the body. These misalignments begin in early life and the sooner they are corrected the better the body is able to heal. When left uncorrected, misalignments can contribute to joint damage, inflammation and structural imbalances.

Chiropractic care for kids and babies can help them recover from illness, support their growth and development, develop proper motor skills and offer relief from any ailments.

2.     Is it safe?

What are the ways children or babies are adjusted?

YES, it is safe.

Chiropractic adjustments to the spinal column and other joints are safe and gentle. Each child’s examination, weight and spinal condition are all taken into consideration when determining the best method of adjusting. For newborns, fingertip pressure is used with a force that is similar to checking the ripeness of a fruit. For older babies or children, light manual force may be applied or a tool such as an Activator may be utilized. Chiropractic adjustments are highly specific and many parents report how much their kids enjoy coming to the Chiropractor.

3.     When is the best time to start?

The best time to bring your child to a Chiropractor is as soon as possible after birth.

There is often trauma associate with the birth process that not only affects Mom but baby as well. This can happen in natural deliveries, caesarean sections and instrument assisted birth processes.

Dr. Godfrey Gutmann, a German physician conducted a study of over 1,000 newborns shortly after birth. He discovered that more than 80% of infants had suffered trauma to their cervical spinal region resulting in vertebral subluxation.

The second-best time to start Chiropractic care is now! More than ever, parents are seeking pro active lifestyle habits that will nurture their child’s health. Your child may not in pain but their spine may be developing with spinal subluxations. Consider making Chiropractic care a part of your family’s preventative lifestyle habits.
